CHESS

Canada’s Hal Bond has been a passionate chess promoter, teacher and organizer since he took up the game during his college years. As an International Arbiter, Hal has been a regular on the World Chess Championship circuit since 2005. He has also served as Canada’s Delegate to the World Chess Federation (FIDE) from 2008 to present day.

In his debut with MSA, Hal looks forward to directing our largest chess program ever and invites chess players from around the Globe to join us in Qatar.

Each Chess Tournament will have a World Title and be FIDE rated where possible.

Over the course of the nine days, there will be six Mindsports World title events.

The event will kick off with Bughouse and Blitz on 19th August with the Main 6-day Event starting on 20th August, this will be FIDE rated with GM and IM norms. The final weekend will include Chess Rapid, and to complete the event; Chess Blitz.

Every participant will receive a Participation Medal and Diploma.

There will be varying daily side events starting at costs as low as $10 per entry. Plus, there will be a free to play area.

Prize Pool: Approximately 10% of the field will be paid out. However, first prize will be at least $10,000 for the main event.

Please see an example chart of the prize pay-outs, this is based on 200 participants for the Chess Main Event with the prize pool of $28,000. (NB: number of placements and prize pay-out quantities will change and are dependent on the number of entries per tournament): It is our intention to ensure many players receive a decent pay-out.
